Schlumberger Smart Cards & Terminals today introduced the MagIC(TM) 6000 multifunction point-of-sale (POS) terminal to the North American transaction processing market. The MagIC 6000 is a solutions-oriented electronic payment terminal that enables merchant service providers, acquiring banks and transaction processors to address the fast-changing card payment environment in complete confidence.
The terminal supports multiple applications and provides a flexible platform for value-added services, such as smart card-based loyalty programs, gift certificate applications and time and attendance recording. Designed for simple countertop installation in retail outlets and other types of stores, this compact stand-alone unit offers rapid processing of magnetic stripe credit and debit cards, as well as the new-generation of smart cards, including electronic purse.
Retail Technology for Today's and Tomorrow's Market Needs
The MagIC 6000 is an integrated, all-in-one unit incorporating a long swipe reader for magnetic stripe cards, and an ISO7816-compatible chip reader ready for EMV. The terminal comes with standard 1 MB of memory, which can easily be upgraded. It interfaces easily with a wide range of peripherals, including check readers and electronic cash registers. The MagIC 6000 features a graphic display which allows user friendly menus, and a fast graphical printer with rapid `drop-in' paper-roll change that saves useful seconds at peak times.

MagIC 6000 Terminal Paves the Way for Value-Added Applications
The introduction of new features accompanying smart card-based payment technology -- loyalty programs, event management applications, campus solutions and private e-purse programs -- is simplified by the MagIC 6000 terminal's Application Manager software. Customers simply load new applications software into the terminal, where they securely reside alongside existing applications. Application `fire-walling' provides a cost-effective platform to securely implement unique products and services, providing major costs savings by minimizing the need to re-certify each and every application module.
Schlumberger has an expanding network of value-added resellers and associate companies developing specific applications for its POS terminals. A common software development platform supports the entire MagIC family of POS solutions, enabling new applications developed for one MagIC terminal to be used on any terminal in the MagIC family.
